Our History

Our History

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. My name is Robert L. Pecht. My wife Stephanie and I own and operate Bordentown Home for Funerals serving Burlington and Mercer Counties. Our vision is to treat each family we meet with compassion, dignity and the utmost respect.

Bordentown Home for Funerals is a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of historic Bordentown City. Bordentown Home for Funerals is a newly renovated facility with ample parking. A non-denominational funeral home offering a compassionate full service approach to planning funeral services, we welcome all faiths and all cultural and religious customs are understood and respected.

"Coming to a funeral home is difficult. Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment from start to finish. I want family members to sit with me in a warm and welcoming environment and talk about the person their loved one was, and what their life meant. My employees and I can then help them plan the best celebration of that person’s life for everyone who will come to remember that friend or loved one.”

Our Heritage

Located in the center of Historic Bordentown City at 40 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown Home for Funerals occupies the site of what was formerly known as Hartmann Funeral Home. Mr. & Mrs. Pecht purchased the property and buildings in August of 2004 and opened for business October 2004.

Built in 1893, the three-story Victorian brownstone was the original location of the Rogers Funeral Home. Some of the foundation of the house dates back to the 1860’s. In 1932, George Sr. and Rose A. Hartmann purchased the property and renamed it Hartmann Funeral Home of Bordentown. Their portrait hangs in the funeral home lounge as a tribute to their dedication. In 1970 a neighboring house was purchased, razed and an addition was built to increase the size of the funeral home.
Mr. Hartmann’s son, George Jr., took over the business and proudly ran the funeral home until 2004 when Robert and Stephanie Pecht purchased the property and renamed the funeral home Bordentown Home for Funerals. They hope to run the funeral home with the same dignity and respect that the Hartmann family did for 72 years.

"We are very pleased to have this opportunity to bring a family-owned and hometown-oriented business back to the center of this community," stated Robert Pecht, Owner/Manager of Bordentown Home for Funerals. “Stephanie and I had a clear understanding of the long, rich history of the town and the property we purchased, which is why we chose to name our business after the city. We love the town and are committed to being a successful business partner as well as raise our family in this community.”
Renovations to the funeral home, completed in Spring of 2005, include new furniture in both viewing rooms, the addition of a children’s activity area in the lounge and a comfortable dining room where the Pecht’s can meet with clients in a warm and welcoming environment to discuss funeral ceremonies and services.
