Obituary for Peter J "Pete" Ziegler Jr.

Peter J "Pete" Ziegler Jr.
Dateline Bordentown Township

Peter J. Ziegler Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born October 14, 1929 in Trenton, N.J., Peter graduated from Hamilton High School in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Lambert, in 1950. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served with the Air Technical Intelligence Center, 1125th USAF Field Activities Group. He was honorably discharged in 1953. After his enlistment, Peter worked for PSE&G as a pipe fitter, retiring after over 40 years of dedicated service.

Known for his fine tenor voice, he sang in the Broad Street Methodist Church Minstrel shows and the Trinity United Methodist Church choir for many years. He received numerous awards and was named the Official Vocalist of Bordentown Township. He was an active member of the township’s Senior Citizens Club, where he sang at the opening of every meeting. He was also a member of the Veterans’ Advisory Board and he belonged to the Gothic-Fraternal Lodge #270 F & AM for over 50 years. He loved to travel, play cards, take trips to Atlantic City and meet new people, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. When he awoke each morning the first thing he would always say was, “What are we going to do today?”

Son of the late Peter J., Sr. and Mary Ziegler, he was predeceased by his wife, Helen, his son, David, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eva, his loving daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ted Rutkowski, sister-in-law, Catherine Ziegler, stepchildren, Kathleen DeMarco, Frith Evans, Michael Blackford, and Eric Blackford, grandchildren, Christina and (Sean) Doan, and Michael Rutkowski, four step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to Moorestown Visiting Nurses & Hospice, 300 Harper Drive, Moorestown, NJ 08057. The family would like to thank Terri, Diane and Lisa who provided such wonderful comfort and care.
